History and Background of MAA

Malaysian Anatomical Association (MAA) was first established in October 2003 during the 1st Malaysian Anatomical Conference, which was held in Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) in Kubang Kerian, Kelantan, Malaysia. At that time, Profesor Dr. Othman Mansor was elected as the first Chairman of the Ad-Hoc committee of MAA. However, the association did not have much activities.

The 2nd Anatomical Conference was held in June 2011 in Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) in Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia. The conference managed to re-established the Ad-Hoc committee with a total of 7 members elected. The committee included anatomists from Kuala Lumpur and different states of Malaysia (Selangor, Perak, Kuantan, Sarawak, Kedah).

Many years gone by without much of activities. For the third time, an Ad-Hoc meeting was organised by Department of Anatomy, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. This was followed by the success of the First Annual General Meeting, organised at Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia on the 21st September 2013. The AGM was attended by many anatomists from all over Malaysia. The MAA Committee Members for the session of 2013-2015 were finally elected. Meetings were carried out immediately to establish, plan and keep the ball rolling for MAA.

Up till October 2014, we have a total of 71 registered members of MAA. A few activities have been planned and some has been executed. The association now have a website and a fanpage in Facebook for members to communicate and get updated about the latest news. We hope that MAA will grow to become one of the well-known, professional association in Malaysia and worldwide.
